DLA Piper, one of the world’s largest law firms, engaged Interior2 to deliver a complete refit of its existing premises at 1 Martin Place. Recognising the buildings’ iconic location, the firm elected to remain in place following the expiry of its lease. Interior2 was tasked to deliver a full fitout across three levels while the firm remained in occupation, minimising disruption to staff and maintaining business continuity throughout the construction period.
The project involved significant structural modifications to the floorplates. The existing internal staircase was demolished and the opening infilled, while a new interconnecting stair and large vertical voids were constructed on the opposite side of the building. These works required careful coordination, particularly as they were carried out along a common wall shared with a major CBD hotel.
Through early engagement, meticulous planning, and close collaboration with the client, consultants, and building management, a staged delivery strategy was developed. The works were completed in two stages, utilising temporary swing space on another level. This approach limited disruption to staff, maintained business continuity and enabled staff to only move once during the eight month construction period.
